Yesterday you started Bearing 1: Prayer. Praying the Lord ’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) then telling Him what you need and thanking Him for all He has done for you. The next bearing is Worship.

Worship is one of the most important thing we can do every day but it is the least understood and most neglected of all. We go to church service. They may call it worship. Some churches do a very good job taking time from the program to actually worship. However many sing praise songs, preach a sermon, pass out communion, pray and do not have a spot on Sunday morning for worship although it is called “Worship Service”. Listening to a preacher and singing praise songs are a wonderful part of learning and connecting with God but they are not the same thing as worship. Many of us grow up in religious traditions that lack a teaching of worship. If you do worship at church it is not enough. We physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually need to worship God on a daily basis.

If you think about it, every society and culture on the planet throughout history has had some kind of worship service. The human need to worship is just as important as water, food, and shelter. If we do not worship it is difficult or impossible to connect with God. We may miss the entire point of praying and doing good deeds if there is no place for worship in our lives.

No matter what your denomination worshiping on a daily basis will give you greater insight and closeness to God that you enjoy and treasure. So, how does a person worship? We look to see what the Bible say about it. It mentions worshiping a lot but my favorite description of actually how to worship is found in Revelations 4:8-11 .

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Revelations 4:8-11

Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), 10 the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,

11 “You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

Revelations 4:8 and 4:11 are the basics of worshiping God, Jesus, the one who lives forever. Give it a go right now. Read these words and focus on God. Let your spirit connect with Him and love Him.

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24 NKJV

Worship this way every day after prayer. Sing a praise song in your mind or out loud. You will find that you have a closeness to the Lord that you never knew was possible. You will have peace and connection that will guide you through each day that will give you wisdom and long suffering that you need to find true joy in any and all circumstances.
